History of Cahalane's Bar
“This is a gem of a bar…” – Vincent (UK) – writes one satisfied visitor. It has everything you’d want in a pub – a good pint, banter and a friendly atmosphere. Cahalane’s Pub is over 100 years old, with a Centenary award to prove it. Steeped in history – this spot was once the walkway to the boats, heading to Baltimore, on the banks of the River Ilen, in days gone by.
A modern pub with a traditional feel, you’ll find the walls graced with photos of Skibbereen’s local, football history where you could spend all day perusing and learning the stories behind the faces – a firm favourite with Skibbereen’s returning, prodigal sons & daughters eager to show off to their offspring; the oldest photo dates from 1924.
Colin, the owner, is a great host full of chat, lore and hidden gems to explore. Friendly and lively, Cahalane’s customers are a rare blend of young and old where everyone is made to feel welcome, even the little ones.
Cahalane’s is definitely a place to while away an hour or two tucked up in front of the warming stove, on a cold winter’s day, or out in the beer garden on a mild summer’s eve. With music, mid-week and weekends, you’ll find something to suit the whole family, you might even be tempted to join in the sing-song!
