History of Dinty's Bar
O’Sullivan’s bar is one of those hidden jewels, you’ll only come across by taking the ‘road less travelled’. A friendly, cosy, family-run pub, on the edge of the sea, you’ll receive a warm welcom from Dermot O’Sullivan who is the 3 rd generation of his family in the business. The 4th generation are in the making and on the scene to help out when times are busy.
Established in 1933, its claim to fame is serving ‘The Most Southerly Pint in Ireland’, as the outsidewall-mural states. Serving the 38 inhabitants of this beautiful village; as well as the tourists & sailing fraternity in the summer months.
This is a fantastic spot to sit outside on a hot summer’s day, pint inhand, and bask in the heat while taking in the shimmering views of the sea and scenic surrounds. On a cold day, you can still take in the stunning surrounds at a table by the large, picturesque windows which frame the spectacular, harbour view like a beautiful painting.
O’Sullivan’s serves simple, but GREAT tasting food made of local produce and fish & seafood, fresh off the boats. You’re so close to the sea here, you could nearly catch your own for lunch. So tasty is their simple fare, that they are regular winners of the coveted ‘Bridgestone Awards’ since the 90’s.
All homemade, there are no chips or deep frying here. Their fresh, crab sandwiches are the best in the World as well as their excellent basket of shrimp and thick, creamy chowder. People travel from far and wide to sample these fabulous delights, which are served all year round.
In the summer, you can also take in their other premises; ‘Nottage’s’ a la carte restaurant (named after Marconi’s right-hand man who arrived in 1902 and stayed on) and ‘The Welcome Inn’ an old, traditional pub with no TV, music or distractions of the modern day….just a plain ol’ pint, good conversation and often a sing song.
